BetterRF
advertises the I-MATE as a way to access the voice and CW memories on the
746/756 series radios, without the need to go hunting through the menus.
Also allow the simultaneous display of the bandscope while accessing the
voice/cw memories on those rigs. They do not advertise that it will work
with the IC7K.
While poking
around on the WWW, I came across an article by K0BG. His article states
that the I-MATE will work on the IC-7000 with the control head remoted IF
you make a small/easy mod to the I-MATE. He states that the I-MATE will
work as manufactured with the IC-7000 as long as the control head is
attached to the radio.
I emailed him to
confirm that this was indeed true and he said it was.
I purchased an I-MATE (I had previously had one when I owned a PROIII) and
indeed it does work as K0BG stated. The I-MATE is a great convenience when
working contests/events and calling CQ via the recorded memories. My I-MATE is working fine on my IC-7000 base station. I have not tried
to perform the mod and use it with the control head remoted. The I-MATE also has a built in "tuning pulser", PTT, and provisions for 2
microphones/headsets. The 8 pin connector is wired for Icom phantom power
to be supplied to an electret mic. The sub-mini jack has a blocking
capacitor so that a non-electret type mic can be used.
